Controversy over contraception

While I am here, I would like to elaborate on this subject and the storm it has caused.  I posted that I was not asking for, and neither was anyone else, free contraceptives.  What we all want is for our insurance companies which we pay premiums on, to include contraceptives in the covered prescriptions.  This has caused a firestorm with someone commenting that he did not want to pay for my contraceptives.  I am going to play the devil's advocate here.  I am forced to pay a hefty property tax with the majority of that property tax going to the local school district.  I am not asked if I want to pay this tax nor do I have any children or grandchildren, indeed no relatives at all, in this school system.  So why am I being forced to educate the children of those who are so rabid and vocal against contraceptives?  Should I not be allowed to opt out of these school taxes.  This person posting is saying that he will take care of his family.  Well is he paying 100% for the education of his children?  Does he pay 100% of the insurance costs for his children?  Not.  He probably sends them to public school, which I pay for and his employer probably pays a huge chunk of his insurance premium.  So why should I be forced to educate his children, whom I do not even know?  Is this fair?  I don't think so.

Travon Martin

I am not liking what I am reading about this case.  From what I can gather, Zimmerman spotted this young man walking on the sidewalk and decided he looked suspicious.  He called 911 to report it.  He was told to remain in his car.  He left his SUV and stalked the young man.  Of course, the 17 year old was scared.  Any sane person would be if you saw a man in a white t-shirt coming  aggressively toward you and the faster you walked, the faster he came. Apparently he then attacked the young man and wound up shooting him and killing him. And he,Zimmerman, claimed self defense.  How can you claim self defense when you are the aggressor and you have the weapon?  This is beyond my reasoning.  How can the authorities buy the self defense call when Zimmerman was the one hounding this young man?  To me, this should be premeditated murder.  Zimmerman apparently planned to use the gun when he got out of his vehicle with said gun. We have a "he needed killing" law on the books in Texas.  Should I just assume that I can kill someone and claim the defense of he needed killing?  They would not only find me guilty of murder, I would get the death penalty.  Seems to me Zimmerman killing an unarmed teen walking home from the store should fall into this same catagory.  Where is the justice for Travon Martin?

Then we get to the case of the two 11-year old girls fighting in California.  One girl got punched in the face and later died.  Now the girl who punched her may be tried for murder.  Two kids fighting is cause for murder charges but out an out murder is not.  What has happened to our justice system?

Women's rights

Lest anyone get the idea that I am saying that women should get special treatment, I am not.  All we want is a level playing field.  We want the same rights as men.  That's all.  And to Sparky, no, I am not advocating that the taxpayer pay for free contraceptives.  What I am saying is that these students as well as everyone else pays insurance premiums.  Contraceptives should be included in covereage.  As to Obamacare, have you ever read the actual bill?  Or are you just parroting those who want it killed?  I suggest you download the actual bill and read it before you get you back up about it.  My insurance premiums help pay for shots, etc for families with children.  Suppose I do not want to pay for that?  Do I have a choice?  No.  Suppose I don't want to pay for schools since I have no children in school?  Do I get to opt out of that?  No and my property tax bill is very high.  What to I get for that $3000 school tax?  I am paying for your kids to go to school and I don't want to.  If women do not have access to contraceptives, there will be more unwanted pregnancies.  Ergo, more unwanted children.  Who do you think will pay for those unwanted children?  You and I will pay.

Seperation of Church and State

Yes, the Constitution does guarantee freedom of religion.  I also upholds seperation of church and state.  However, churches are taking that to mean only the government is to be kept at bay.  This applies both ways.  Government stays out of the churches and the churches stay out of the government, but the churches don't want it that way.  They want to be in control and dictate to the rest of the country.  Churches have no record keeping costs.  They are not required to file any forms other than to keep up their non profit status.  They get a break in postage on their mailings.  Know who pays for that break in cost of postage for churches?  You do.  every time you buy stamps or mail packages.  Why?  Because this is "revenue forgone"  and is supposed to be reimbursed to the Postal Service by Congress.  This was enacted in 1970.  Since that time, no payments for that postage has come from Congress.  As to government meddeling in church affairs, if a church school takes federal money in the form of student loans, grants, etc, then yes the federal government does have a right to get involved.  As I said before, all they have to do is refuse the federal money.  But they don't want to do this.  They want the taxpayer to subsidize the church education system but not hold them to the same standards as all the other schools.  Can't have it both ways.

Women's rights

I have gotten posts from a person blasting me for demanding that they pay for my contraceptives.  No where in any of my posts have I advocated free contraceptives.  What I do advocate is that INSURANCE COMPANIES be required to furnish coverage for contraceptives.  No one is advocating free contraceptives.  However, if I am paying for my insurance premiums then these contraceptives should be covered just like any other prescription.  As to the religious schools and universities being required to furnish this coverage, they can very easily opt out of taking federal money and they won't be required to offer this coverage.  I lived in a time when women had very few rights.  I don't want to go back to that time.  And to the person who lamblasted me for this, unless you pay the full premium for your insurance for you and your family, then the other policy holders are helping to pay for your medical coverage for you and your family.

Women's rights

I haven't been on here for awhile because I am so disgusted with the idiots in this country.  How dare they try to roll back women's rights!  How dare they tell me that I am a second class citizen!  Now the evangelicals and the stupid repugs want to prevent women from having access to birth control.  Bet they would scream bloody murder if we just told them "no sex, take care of your own problem."  Insurance covers smoking cessation,  it covers treatment for smoking related illnesses.  It covers treatment for erectile dysfunction.  But women do not need access to birth control, breast cancer screening, pap smears.  Nope.  We are again being relegated to second class citizen and worse yet, chattel to the men.  Bet if there was a birth control for men, there would be no question about it being covered by insurance.  And if men could get pregnant, abortion would be drive thru.  But since these problems affect women, they don't count.  And any woman wanting birth control is a slut anyway.  Well, if that makes us sluts and prostitutes, then that makes all the men johns. Soliciting prostitution is a crime same as prostitution. Ergo if our husbands and boyfriends won't stand up for us then no sex.  I have been ashamed at the lack of backing that women have received from their husbands, fathers, and boyfriends.  It is appalling what the politicians are trying to do to us and equally appalling at the lack of outrage from men.  Shame on them.  This is a cross gender issue. Ladies, be sure to make your voice heard at the polls.

Politics

Well, it looks as if Romney will be the Republican candidate.  I hope he can live with himself.  He has really sold himself out to win the backing the evangelicals.  Definition of Evangelical: Someone who has convinced themselves that they are God's right hand man or woman and can do no wrong.  Someone who is so self-righteous that they have convinced themselves it is their right to police the world and decide what is moral and what is not moral.  Someone who, in their minds, deserves all the rights they want, but you deserve none.  And in their minds, women are chattel.  Women are only good for breeding.  How do I know what they think and what their ideas are?  I grew up among them.  I know them.  And Romney has sold his soul to them for their votes.  They are dangerous people and the rest of the country would do well to sit up and take notice and start blocking them and their ilk.  If they can,  they will send us back to the 13th century.  Sounds like I am describing radical Islam, doesn't it?  Nope.  Plain old American radical evangelicals.  And while they shout and call on God to bless them on Sunday, on Saturday night they are out drinking, visiting a girlfriend or boyfriend, or cheating someone out of something.  Willie Nelson was once asked the difference in the audiences he sang to-the honkey-tonk crowd on Saturday night and the church on Sunday.  His answer, they were the same people.  Evangelicals scare the beJesus out of me, whether it is the radical Islam, Evangelical Catholics, Baptist, Protestants, England's Cromwell, or the Catholic Inquisition.  They are all the same and they are all dangerous.  They don't recognize your rights.  For them, you don't have any rights.  Wake up, America, before it is too late.

I guess I am just getting old

What is happening in my country makes me very sad.  We have a segment of the populace that does not believe in any part of the Constitution except guaranteeing them religious freedom and religious freedom only for themselves.  They want to turn our government into a theocracy.  Not a democracy, not a Republic, but a theocracy.  And if they get that then we will be fighting over which church rules the country.  Seems to me I remember that is why we broke away from Great Britain in the first place.  That is why the Constitution expressly separated church and state.  Religion has no place in government.  And if they continue to meddle, then I think we should take away their non-profit status, force them to keep records and pay taxes just like everyone else.  No church should keep it's status and meddle in our freedoms.  I am free to believe whatever I want.  I am free to take birth control if I want.  I am free to not take it if I want.  And there is no man, woman, or church that can stop me.  I don't care what they believe in.  I chose to not believe their way and I am guaranteed the freedom to do this.  However, this segment of society wants to take away those freedoms.  They want to tell me that I can't believe this way.  They want to tell me that I need religion.  They want to force their beliefs on me all the while screaming that their religious freedoms are being denied them.  I'll say it again.  Tax the churches.  Tax the livin hell out of the churches.  They are nothing but businesses anyway and should be paying business taxes.  I for one am tired of subsidizing them while they try to force a way of life on me that I don't want.

I am so angry

I just read the news articles about the statements by the idiot, Limbaugh.  This windbag has no credentials except being a drug addict and should be in jail.  Instead he is free to insult young women.  If he had made this remark about me, my father would be on him like white on rice.  We fought long and hard for our rights.  We are not second class citizens and we don't need some pos talking trash about women simply because he has a hatred of women.  Seems there are a lot of the so-called religious things that pass themselves off as men out there that share this same demeaning hatred of women.  To them I say, screw yourselves.  The time has long passed when we needed the "protection" of men.  My father told me when I was little that "You don't need a man.  Get an education and take care of yourself.  He was right.  And we have rights as well.  And those evangelicals out there?  Well, my dad warned me about them too.  What he said was, "stay away from those preachers.  They'll be screaming Amen while they are grabbing your rear.  He was right there too.

What has happened to my country?

Now we have evangelicals telling women that they do not get contraception because a section of our country does not believe in it.  Never mind what I believe in.  My beliefs do not count.  It is only the opinions and beliefs of the radical right that counts.  Rush, the druggie, has had the gall to call one girl a slut.  If she is a slut, then Rush must be a man whore.  Wonder if Rush's boyfriend knows he is lusting after a woman?  Interesting.  Why do I call Rush gay?  Well, for someone to hate women as much as he does, seems to be pointing the finger at an alternate lifestyle.  Just sayin.
