Both Republicans and Democrats

I expected the Republicans to attack the Democratic woman, Hillary Rosen, who blasted Ann Romney over her telling us she understood all women.  I did not expect the Democrats to attack this woman.  She only stated the truth.  Ann Romney has never worked and has had it very easy with no worries.  Ann Romney had the money to make the choice to be a stay-at-home mom.  Most of us do not have that luxury.  Rosen only stated the truth.  I had to take a step back and rethink whether I could vote for Obama after he attacked Rosen and even stated that families are off limits.  Hello! Does no one remember how Hillary Clinton was treated?  And had Obama forgotten how his wife was treated?  Yes, children should be off limits.  They are not running for office.  But when Ann Romney jumped into the campaign, she made herself fair game.  Every one owes Rosen an apology.

I do have sympathy for Ann Romeny because of her bout with breast cancer and MS.  However, Mrs. Romeny has the money to get the best doctors and best treatments that money can buy.  My step-daughter has fought breast cancer and is fighting MS.  She does not have the luxury of having the best doctors at her beck and call.  She has to accept what her insurance will provide.  Sometimes it is not much.  She is on a fixed income.  She has to pay for her shots of Avonex.  She has to pay for the necessary aids to help her walk, ie crutches, walkers,safety bars in the bathroom.  Why?  She is not old enough for Medicare and her insurance only pays a pittance for these necessary items.  Ann Romeny will have all the help she needs as the MS progresses.  My step-daughter will have to look forward to assisted living.  Again, Ann Romney has no clue how the rest of us cope.  She now lives and has always lived in a gilded cage.  I do not envy her her money.  I do resent the fact that she tries to present herself as "just like every other woman."  This in itself is a lie.

Notice that the Democrat that called Ann Romey on her being a spokeswoman for women everywhere got slammed by everyone including Obama.  She only stated the truth.  Ann Romey has no clue what women in the 99% endure whether they are stay-at-home moms or working mothers.  She has had maids.  She has never had to worry.  She can't identify with the rest of us who have had to choose between rent and food.  Or how do I pay the doctor's bill for my child.  I have no money and he has a high fever and needs antibiotics.  Even if I manage to pay the doctor, how will I pay for the meds he needs?  Or, my employer is threatening to fire me because I have been out too much with my sick child.  Or I have no babysitter and have to find a way to go to work. 

Here is one for Ann.  I have waited on the bus to return my child from a track meet.  I have picked up that child and taken her home at 1am, then gone to work to be there at 2 am for a 10 hour day.  I have called in sick to attend my child's track meet or soccer game because my boss would not let me off to attend.  I have begged, traded days off, done whatever to attend swim meets on Saturdays.  I have signed out sick, come home and spent the remainder of the night rocking a sick baby, waiting for morning to take him to the doctor.  Why did I make the decision to work?  The decision was made for me because we had to have the money to survive and had to have the insurance I provided to care for our children.  You see, my husband was a school teacher in Texas.  Their salaries was and still are below poverty level.  Medical insurance was not offered to teachers at that time.  Teachers were required to work football games, basketball games, all school functions without pay.  They were also required to do lesson plans and grade papers on their own time.  I worked nights and took care of my children during the day while my husband worked.  So, no, Ann Romeny cannot be my advocate.  She has no clue who I am.

Stand your ground law

I am also trying to wrap my mind around the concept that a person can stalk another person and when that person confronts them, kill them and claim self defense.  My understanding of the stand your ground law is that if you are physically threatened while just going about your business, then you have the right to shoot to kill instead of trying to get away.  Zimmerman left his car with a gun in hand to stalk someone just walking down the sidewalk.  He confronted him and the kid wound up dead.  Travyon Martin is every one's child.  This could have happened to any of our children.  Would I shoot someone if they were walking down the sidewalk in front of my house?  No!  Would I shoot someone if they were walking down the sidewalk and looking at my house? No!  Would I shoot someone for being in my yard? No!  Would I shoot someone who was breaking into my house?  Absolutely.   The difference here is that the person walking down the sidewalk is on public property, not personal property.  In my yard, yes, that is my property.  But if he is doing no harm why shoot?  Zimmerman shot Martin for walking down the sidewalk, a public sidewalk paid for by all the taxpayers.  It was not Zimmerman's personal property.  And he stalked the kid after being told not to.  So I fail to see how the stand your ground law can even remotely apply here unless you are saying that Trayvon Martin was defending himself.  My opinion, when Zimmerman left the car with that gun, someone was going to get shot.  This fool should never have been given a concealed permit.  He saw a gun as power.  Guns are not power.  They are dangerous and should be treated with utmost respect.  I was taught that if you carry a gun, you had better know how and when to use it.  Zimmerman did not know how or when to use this gun. 

Again on gated communities

I am still trying to wrap my mind around the concept that a group of people can put fences around their communities and locking gates while the entire city is paying for their streets, sewers, water lines, electricity lines, sidewalks.  Everyone pays for these amenities and only a few are allowed to use them.  Not right.  They should have to at the very least pay the taxpayers a fee for these services.  No one asked me if I wanted to put in streets, sidewalks, sewers and utilities for the gated community down the street from me.  I should have at the very least been allowed to vote on whether I wanted to provide elite service for a small segment of the city. 

Gated Communities

Am I the only one that finds the idea of a gated community within the city an offense to the taxpayers of said city?  Does not the city taxpayers collectively pay for the streets and sidewalks, the installation of sewers, water, electric, and phone lines?  Does not the city police have said gated community within their jurisdiction?  So how is it that the people who live on those streets can claim as their sole property the public ammenities that all taxpayers pay for?  This is just wrong.  And seems to me should be illegal.  Those city officials approving such communities should be charged with mishandling taxpayer funds.  Just sayin.

My country is in a mess.

I am so disgusted with the circus surrounding the shooting of Trayvon Martin.  George Zimmerman went looking for someone to shoot that night.  Anyone with any gun knowledge knows you don't take a gun with you unless you are intending to use it.  Zimmerman was under no threat from this kid.  He was told to stay in his car.  Instead he left his car with the gun and stalked the kid.  Zimmerman weighed in at 248 pounds and Martin weighed in at 150 and was 6'3" tall.  He was a beanpole and a puff of wind could have probably blown him over.  I believe he did shove Zimmerman when Zimmerman got in his face.  The kid would have been scared to death.  And I further believe that when he shoved Zimmerman away from him Zimmerman shot him.  I fail to se how anyone can claim self defense when he stalked the kid for doing nothing but walking on the sidewalk.  I don't care if the person on the sidewalk was a biker dude with tatoos all over.  If all he was doing was walking on the sidewalk, he had a perfect right to do so.  Zimmerman was a wannabe tough guy out to show how big he was.  Instead a young man is dead and it is looking for all the world like he won't get justice.  This is not about race.  Pure and simple, it is about justice.
