More politics

I read an article in the Pakistani Daily Times yesterday and I can't get it out of my mind.  The reporter was writing about the 14 year old school girl that was shot for demanding the right to go to school.  The right to go to school.  That seems so basic and yet we have that right and our kids do not appreciate that right and neither do their parents.  There is no discipline in the schools anymore.  Everything has to  be politically correct.  The elementary kids in my grandkids' school  are not allowed to touch.  No more little girls holding hands and whispering secrets.  No more little boys rough and tumble play.  We are barring our kids from the most basic human contact.  A teacher can no longer hug a child.  And every parent demands their child be given A's whether they earn them or not.  We don't want the kids disappointed.  We don't teach them to face disappointment.  What we are teaching them is that everything will be handed to them.  Not good.  And we are required to educate Mexico's kids now on the taxpayer dollar.  Other kids coming here do not have the luxury of being taught in their own language.  I have a friend who is Indian.  She came here at 8 years old.  She spoke no English.  She had to learn on her own.  It is time we got back to the business of education.  It is not the responsibility of the teacher to always make sure a student is not disappointed.  Disappointment is a fact of life.  As to bullying, simple.  Those doing the bullying will not be allowed to participate in any extracurricular activities for a full year.  That does not work, expell them.  They learn this from their parents.  Let the parents deal with them.  Until the parents teach their kids that it is a privilege to be able to attend school, we will not have a decent school system.
