Texas Good Ole Boy Politics

I like living in Texas.  I really do.  But the politicians and the fools who elect them make me wonder if I have made a bad choice.  All Texas Federal Politicians voted against the violence against women act.  No good reason, they just did.  And then we have Ted Cruz.  A real piece of work there.  He is against everything in Washington.  He is introducing a bill to defund the healthcare program.  This from a pol that is on the elite healthcare plan paid for by the taxpayer that the taxpayer had no say in providing.  This from a pol that gladly accepts the high salary that the taxpayer had no say in paying.  Cruz is not in Washington to represent Texas.  Cruz is in Washington to represent Ted Cruz and get everything he can from the very taxpayers he is trying to screw.  Well, that is standard Texas Politics these days and the electorate is too stupid to see it.  He feeds the tea party a line about defunding any programs to help the poor.  They swollow it.  However, many of these taxpayers or their children are recipients of those very same programs.  One friend of mine who is so rabid about these programs has a granddaughter who has been on medicare and SSI all her life because she has slight retardation.  Another granddaughter is just going on Medicare and SSI because she has Down's Syndrome.  This friend also has a nephew on these same benefits because of retardation.  You point this out and her answer is "Well, why shouldn't they get it?  Everyone else is."  Abortion is another issue.  Texans are rabidly against abortion.  They are also against feeding and caring for the children who are already here.  They are against clinics that offer exams and free contraceptives.  In Texas, if you are poor, then you deserve  to be poor.
