I have relatives who are very dogmatic about prayer in school. According to them, if we only had prayer in schools, all our problems would go away. I am very opposed to organized prayer in schools and here is why: those kids are just that, kids. They are not allowed to make decisions for themselves. They are an evangelists dream. A captive audience, young and pliable. No one has the right to force religion onto anyone especially children. And what about the parents that don't want their kids exposed to religion? They are out there. And they have a right to not have this forced on their children. I am anti religion and I don't care what religion it is. If you read the Bible, there is nowhere in there that God endorses a particular religion. Nowhere. And religions have started more wars and caused more deaths than anything else. I will point to the Catholic church. It has a long, long history of heinous crimes, murders, molestation and all in the name of religion. The inquisition, which went on for 400 years, was nothing more than a Jew hunt by the Catholic church. The Catholic church was in cahoots with the Nazis in WW2. And look at the number of priests that have been accused of molestation. I have only touched a small amount of what the church is guilty of. And I would throw in all the Christian churches. The catholic being the oldest, has dirtier hands.
Move on to the next huge religion: Islamic religion. From what I know of it, it is on par with the Catholic church in being horrible. Allowing women to be tortured, stoned to death, raped, no rights at all. They are where the Catholic church was before we pulled it's teeth. We will have to pull the teeth of the Islamic religions as well. They live in the 11th century if that evolved. So yeah, I hate all organized religion. That does not mean I am not spiritual. I am very much spiritual. I believe in God. I talk to him every day. Most people equate God with religion. You have to learn to divorce your spirituality from religion. Religion is not necessary to have a relationship with God. This is the philosophy I have developed. Religion is for those who fear there is a hell. Spirituality is for those who have walked through hell and come out on the other side. I am spiritual. Screw religion and no it never belongs in school.
