Country's Budget

Those in Congress that want to cut all so-called entitlements are forgetting that all citizens, them included, use the roads, airports, fire departments, police, and many, many other 'entitlements.'  Wonder whom the rich, living in their gated communities, will call on when there is an out of control wildfire, or flood, or tornado that destroys  their expensive homes?  Or, God forbid, we have another terrorist attack?  Who will go into those buildings then?  Did anyone see the article about the police in California just standing on the beach and letting a man commit suicide?  They were not trained in water rescue.  They were bad mouthed because they didn't try to save him, but I would bet those doing the bad mouthing had never tried to pull someone out of the water that did not want to be saved.  It is dangerous enough to save someone who wants to be saved.  It takes training.  Those policemen were right.  They could have been drowned along with the suicide victim.  That is an entitlement.  Training those officers would be considered an entitlement.  If we don't want to pay for those entitlements, then everyone keep your mouth shut when those dedicated to serving cannot do their jobs because of lack of training and equipment.  I also wonder if those screaming cut entitlements see the military as an entitlement?  We are a civilized country.  We have to pay for that civilization.  Spending like drunken sailors on two wars, unnecessary tax cuts, gifts to Big Pharma. etc, is not supporting our civilization.  As my grandmother used to say, "Does no good to close the barn door after the horse is out.  You have to catch the horse first."  We do have to balance our budget, but we cannot do it on the backs of the middle class.  There are not enough of us left.
